It's pure comfort food. <br /> <br />Ingredients: <br />1 cup Rice <br />1/2 cup Petite yellow lentils/pesara Pappu <br />2 tbsp ghee (clarified butter) <br />3 cups of water <br /> 1/4 cup cashews <br />10-12 Balck pepper/miriyalu/kali miri <br />1/2 tsp Cumin seeds <br />1/2 inch Chopped ginger <br />1/2 tsp Crushed black pepper <br />10- 15 curry leaves <br />salt to taste <br /> <br />Method : <br />1. For making Pongal, take one cup rice and 1/2 cup Petite yellow lentils. <br />2. Wash the rice and dal and put it in the cooker. In that add black pepper, cumin seeds and add 3 cups water for one and a half cup dal and rice mixture. <br />3. Pressure cook it for 3-4 whistles. <br />For Tempering : <br />1. In Pan, add ghee and heat it. Once it is hot enough, add chopped ginger, cashews and roast it until it turns brown in color. <br />2. Once cashews are brown in color, add crushed black pepper and curry leaves and saute it well. <br />3. In this tempering mixture, add cooked dal rice mixture and mix it well. <br />4.
